Answer
Based on official Jordanian legal texts
In Jordan, the alimony for a working wife is addressed under specific conditions according to the Personal Status Law. According to Article 61 (المادة 61) of the Personal Status Law:
-
A wife who works outside the home is entitled to alimony if two conditions are met:
- The work must be lawful.
- The husband must explicitly or implicitly agree to the work.
-
The husband cannot withdraw his consent for his wife's lawful work unless he has a legitimate reason and does not cause her harm.
Additionally, Article 64 (المادة 64) states that the alimony for the wife is determined based on the husband's financial situation, whether he is wealthy or not. The alimony can be increased or decreased according to his financial status, but it must not fall below the minimum necessary for food, clothing, housing, and medical care. Alimony is either agreed upon by the spouses or determined by a judge, and it does not cover periods before the agreement or court request.
